Ahem,

Over the past few weeks I have been becoming increasingly frustrated with my comic, World Warp. I don't like the path I've set the plot down, I feel it relies too heavily on clichés and at this point may be irreparable :?. (I didn't realize how cliché it was when I came up with the idea, but then I came up with the original idea for the plot when I was like 10, and though it has changed a lot since then the core of the story is still based on what a 10-year-old though was cool.) In general, I have just become sort of annoyed at where I am taking everything.

Now before you get any Ideas, I will not be stopping World Warp. I still really enjoy making it and will continue to do so. The story was never intended to be something groundbreaking anyway, just a way to get practice drawing and get my ideas out there at the same time. But I still don't like the lack of creativity it is founded on, so what am I going to do about it you ask?

I've created ivstudios.net, (ivstudios.com was already taken, what are the odds? I just can't come up with anything original it seems  ) and will be using it to host a new comic,Inhumation. As of right now, I will not be moving World Warp over to the new site, but continue to host it through Keenspace. I have been wanting to do this new comic for a while and now is as good a time as any to start it. I feel this comic is much more original than my current one (I hope, tomorrow I may find a comic that has already done what I want to do. :? )

But anyway, from now on I will be concentrating mostly on the new comic, and continue to do World Warp just for fun. (not that I think Inhumation isn't going to be fun, but you know what I mean.) So here I goes, let's hope I can pull it off.

You're making a more concentrated effort to go somewhere different with this one? I'll be interested to see where it goes, then!

Oh, and don't let originality issues get to you too much; if you study your or anyone else's work from every angle possible, I think you'd eventually find that everything's been done before.

So far, so good. Like the layout too, although, I can see the background colur getting a bit rough on the eyes once you've built up a decent size archive to read through.

Thanks for the support and encouragement! :D :D

As for the background, if it gets to be a problem I'll change it, but for now I like it.

QUESTION

im really digging the 'lotsa-black' style of inhumation but im a total art noob so i dunno how to draw like that. what inky-implements do you use to get all that black-blackiness? i asked john thornton of The Man Who Hates Fun what he uses and he said he uses a windsor brush with indian ink and something else, it sounds weird and complex =p so i was wondering what you used or if everyone uses these brushes n stuff

Lesee here,

I use Micron black pens for all the line work and the small areas of black. For medium to large areas of black I use a brush with Indian ink. And the really large areas I just do on the computer. I could probably save myself a lot of time if I did all the medium and large areas on the computer, but that's not as much fun :D. If I'm feeling really artsy, I whip out my pen and nibset for the line work, but the Microns are a lot faster and cleaner.

And if I'm really lazy, just use a sharpie for the big areas.

The brush and ink isn't really that hard once you get the hang of it. It's just like using a marker accept no nasty fumes and it doesn’t (usually) soak through the paper. Indian ink is really great stuff! :D

First off, World Warp, even if you see it as practice, is an accomplishment in and of itself. Go out in a crowd, and point at somebody; chances are, they don't have a webcomic. I don't know of any webartist who does it right the first time, man.

You sound incredibly excited about your new project, and I think this is a really good thing. If you really like doing something, you'll get better for it, and this'll help you grow. You've got a gut feeling that you can't go forward with WW as much as you'd like. Rather than just being stuck in that path, you took a step back and took another road. I really think it'll help put what you want to do in perspective.

That said... Inhumation on Cornstalker? :3

for some reason that line made me laugh kinda

probably because i envisioned the literal interpretation of it as i read it

ME, THE GREAT ONE: *points at stranger* Hey! You probably don't have a webcomic!

I've thought about that, but I'm not Agonizingly disappointed in where it's going, just more of a "If I were going to start over, I’d probably do it like this..." type deal. If I were to start over, I'd just find new stuff I wished I'd done differently. I think I'm gonna stick with it as-is for now and just see where it takes me.

As for Inhumation on Cornstalker, I was just planning to use this forum for both comics, as long as it's not a problem with Matt. :D

Someone already tried to 'inhume' Cornstalker, fortunantly for for us, they didn't contract it through the Ankh-Morpork Assassins Guild and we had Jeff on our side

Y'know, I was just thinking, if you said you're moving away from WW cuz it's too based on cliches, how come you're starting IH off with a typical rebellious teen vs strict dad conversation? Isn't that a cliche as well?

Stop pointing out my ironies! :(

Yah, I know it's a tad cliché in itself, but it's not central to the plot. Just some quick environment and personality establishment to get things rolling.
