It's probably not good that it drops to about 5 frames per second when I get to the vortex.

This is pretty awesome. Not sure how I feel about the new Chewie design, but still a really fun retooling.

Is it just me being more exposed to it or has steampunk been getting more and more popular?

I think it has - in a way it seems to have replaced Cyberpunk as the sub-genre of the moment these past few years. (Stuff like China Meville's Perdito Street Station, Girl Genius, and other nerd cultural artifacts helped, I think)

What have I got?

Mexican Witches.

I say ntohing as to the veractiy, but I will say that the video at the beginning is the highlight of the segment.

It's pretty darn cool. Also, consider checking out the enhanced version someone has put up- it's a step by step dissection of one segment of this witch.

Mannn, at first glance I parsed that as "Mexican watches" and was gonna call you a spammer... :P

OMG.

We saw this just last night. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I'm happy to have found it after all this time.

What's the best thing I got?

Code:
javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.getElementsByTagName(%22img%22); DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute'; DIS.left=(Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5)+%22px%22; DIS.top=(Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5)+%22px%22}R++}setInterval('A()',5); void(0)

Copy-paste that into your URL bar, then press enter. Then scroll up to the top of your screen. ;)

You can get rid of it at any time by pressing Refresh.
